It often comes as a surprise to our customers but most of the boom lifts, scissor lifts, and telehandlers you see in North America are made here. The majority of JLG, Genie, and Snorkels products are made in America while SkyJacks are made in Canada. Even JCB which is based in Great Britain makes many of their construction telehandlers in the US. Lifts were popular in the US and Europe earlier than the rest of the world and as a result the US is home to most of the bigger manufacturers. The industry has undergone a lot of consolidation with JLG and Genie seemingly coming out at the top of the lift heap though they do face competition from European and increasingly Asian companies. More recently the domestic manufacturers are beginning to make some models in overseas plants. Most of that production is for overseas markets but in some occasions they’re imported into the US.
